MY STEP-BY-STEP COPYWRITING PROCESS

How does a copywriter work?

Whether you’ve got a bucket-load of experience working with freelance copywriters or are dipping your toe into the copywriter pool for the first time, it’s handy to know how the copywriting process works.

To help you out, I’ve put together a nifty step-by-step guide to the way I work as a copywriter. So whether you’re after stand-out SEO copy, wow-inducing website copy, or killer creative copy to woo your audience, take a look at my copywriting process so you know what you’re in for.

My Copywriting Process

  • Copywriting Enquiry

Jump onto my copywriting enquiry form and tell me little or a lot about your copywriting project.

Website copy, SEO copy, blog post content, or a bit of everything – whatever kind of copywriting you’re after, tap me out a digital message and fill me in.

Be sure to include any need-to-know details, like if you’re on a super-tight deadline or want something out of the ordinary.

  • Copywriting Rates

Next, I’ll give you a rough indication of copywriting costs – that way, you can decide if you, me and your budget are a good fit.

While this isn’t a formal copywriting quotation, I’m pretty good at sizing up your requirements and sending you a near-as-dammit cost estimate.

You can also get an idea of my copywriting rates and package inclusions here.

  • Copywriting Brief

Here’s where it gets exciting. If you’re keen to proceed, I’ll send you my copywriting briefing form to get busy with.

This provides me with all the juicy insights I need to start researching your brand, audience, and copywriting needs.

Just a note – getting this in writing is an essential part of the process. I don’t take briefings over the phone, so you’ll need to get your type on (I promise it’ll be worth it).

  • Copywriting Quote

Now we’ve got the nitty-gritty sorted, I can send you a copywriting quotation with a fixed, all-inclusive price so you know exactly what you’ll be investing (no nasty surprises here).

Your copywriting quotation will also outline the scope of your project, delivery timeframes, and the deposit amount (usually 50%).

If all looks a-ok with your copywriting quote, hit me up with your approval and we’ll be good to go.

  • Copy Drafting

Time for the real fun to begin. I’ll get to work whipping up a fabulous first draft of your copy.

I should have all the info I need by now, but if I’ve got any burning questions I’ll get in touch.

Otherwise, I’ll shut myself away and create your captivating copy, making sure it’s word-perfect before I share it with your eager eyes.

  • Copy Edits

The good news is, you have two rounds of revisions available. The better news? The vast majority of my clients don’t need any changes to the first draft!

However, if you spot anything you’d like me to tweak, amend, massage or rewrite, now’s your chance to let me know your feedback so I can (re)work my magic.

You can make comments and edits directly to the copy document in Google Docs – nice and easy.

  • Copy Approval

Once you’re over the moon with your copy, I’ll send across the final version and it’s all yours to do whatever you like with.

All that’s left to do is finalise the balance invoice and go share your amazing copy with the world.

See you for the next project!
